Can anyone in the Chesapeake, Va or surrounding areas suggest a good family lawyer?

Question by d j: Can anyone in the Chesapeake, Va or surrounding areas suggest a good family lawyer?
My friend went through a divorce 2yrs ago. Her ex got remarried(to his mistress) and is fighting for sole custody of their ten year old son. Her orginial divorce lawyer seems to be doing just enough to prevent malpractice. She need a lawyer who will fight tooth and nail. He was the custodial parent of their two teenage sons. The ex had been in a psych ward during their marriage and her present lawyer did not bring this up in the original divorce hearing because he said that would have no barring on the case. (If her ex wins sole custody, can he move to Canada? Those are his plans.) Please help. It would be great if you presonnaly used the lawyer.

How do you hire a divorce lawyer when you have no money?

Question by ZER0 C00L ••AM••VT••: How do you hire a divorce lawyer when you have no money?
My husband has cheated on me and I need to hire a lawyer in order to protect my interests and those of my son… but I don’t have any money. My husband made the money and I stayed home with our son. Recently he’d told me to leave the house so I left with our son and moved in with my parents. We didn’t have any savings and there’s barely anything left in our checking account (he’s still left me on our joint checking account so that I can withdraw money as needed to pay for food or clothing, etc).

We’ve been married about 3 and a half years. Our son is 2 years old and I’m also worried about custody. I live in Arizona, the Phoenix area. Is my best bet to go through friends and to see if they can find a lawyer they know who would take me on pro bono, or are there free services out there for people like me that I’ve never heard of?

You could possibly find a lawyer who is willing to take some percentage of the potential settlement.

Can a divorce lawyer advise his client to illegally claim dependents on their taxes?

Question by : Can a divorce lawyer advise his client to illegally claim dependents on their taxes?
My boyfriend was the custodial parent of his two kids while their mom spent that time partying and getting another man on lock-down to pay her bills. She provided no child support and hardly saw her kids, — this past august, she BEGGED him to let her take the kids for the school year because she missed them soo much. Well immediately she applied for food stamps and receives over $ 400 a month now, (which she brags about to my bf) and has hired a lawyer to get child support. Her lawyer advised her to claim both of the kids on her taxes even though he knew that she didn’t have them for all of 2009, not even six months out of 2009, she took them in september. Is this legal?

My boyfriend is filing an amended tax return– the 1040x, but my question is more – can she do this just because her lawyer told her to? I thought there were laws about claiming dependents??

In the USA.

It depends if she has a court order that allows her to claim the children on taxes from x to x time then she can if not then yes your boyfriend and the IRS can do something about it. You will likely get contacted for more information but in the end the ones that has custody wins.

In the EU

You can simple phone the IRS and fax or email them the prove of custody in the day after the IRS will have take care of your problem.
